Is there a future in being a Financial planner?

October 3rd, 2008 at 02:05 am

My cousin told me that there is no future in the financial industry due to the market crash. We are heading for a recession... Is it true that they are cutting people who work in Finance? I do not like where this is going...

It is true that in these next few years that there will be fewer jobs in high Finance (fingers crossed, no future in fraud), but "no future" is a mighty long time.

Don't forget that in response to this crisis, new financial products are being cooked up as we speak. With different tools comes different tactics and planning ... lots of planning.

I am sure there is a future. Now is a good time to get a degree in that area - the landscape will change while you are in school. It's just not a good time to be a fat cat planner, right now. I know plenty more small time financial planners who are doing well right now because everyone is in such a panic.

I think it's more important to figure out what your passion in life is, and to turn that into a career of some kind than it is to worry about the job market. The job market will still have room for one more financial planner, but only if you have the passion for it....

i agree with BA, you have to have a passion for something, and if you do, you'll make it work.
think of writers. i mean, there's billions of books out there isnt there? and yet when there is a great new book that comes out, people buy it don't they? it's because the author has a passion for writing, and they've written it because they want people to read it.
